Post Go through my old pictures of my 30 plus year career
The original thread was lost in the change over so here it goes again. I have worked as a creature maker and make-up artist for over 30 years and yes I'm still at it. I will never retire. That's death.

So I started going through old pictures and thousands of slides left to go through yet. At first I thought I was missing pictures but then I remembered I took slides in those days or often than not. I pick a scanner for slides up this weekend and then the real good stuff will come out. Still I have found lots of old prints that are pretty neat. They range from Laser Blast-Star Trek-to Ghost Busters and Fright Night. Some things I forgot I even did.

So here's a few to start it off. Have fun with it I have. I plan a picture book with a bit of text and comment later this year. Looking for a publisher now.

That's me on the left hand side about with the hand in her face. I made the hands and puppeteered.

McDuff was a morning kids show back in the 70s. Bob Shiffer of Disney gave this job to me. He was the original make up man that did the Shaggy Dog.

One of my early and most favorite jobs. Being a Trek fan I was in hog heaven thanks to the kindness of Fred Phillips who gave me the job.

My old Yoda mask I made just after the film came out for a client.

I worked on the Planet of the Apes TV show briefly when I first came to LA. I use to do make up demos at the conventions and sell the appliances. This is me from one of those times in full make up and lace hair pieces.

Work I did for the Return of the Swamp Thing. That's me trying out the suit.

The appliances I made for Chris's hand in Fright Night where he gets a pencil through the hand. I did Evil Ed's prosthetics and a few other things for the film. I looking for those next but suspect they are in the slides.

That will hold you guys for now. More to come.

Yes I did The Stuff and many other Larry Cohen films. I owe it to Rick Baker who turned me onto my first job with Larry. I'm still in touch him him today.

Here's some more pictures then from The Stuff.

Image

That me in my Ghost Busters crew shirt. Rick Stratton in the background. Rick and I did all the make-up effect on this show. We made the molds, ran the foam, painted, and did all the sculpting. Those were the days eh?

Image

The hand puppet before I painted it. Notice the face.

Image

Here it is coming out of Garret's mouth.

Image

And the remains of him afterwords. This shot was taken in my lab before we went on location. The white Stuff is polyfoam.

Rick and I built this suit for the A-Team. Remember it?

And last for tonight Mac Tonight. I did about 4 of these heads for them over the years. The first was cable controlled. The later radio controlled. My wife Gilly, Bob Burns, and myself puppeteered the head for years and worked with Doug Jones who played the character. Couldn't find a picture of Gilly with Mac so here she is with a bum!

P.S. If you know the name Beth Hathaway that beautiful creature with Kong is her Mom.

HAHA, awesome.... I have a Fango mag with extensive coverage of the stuff. I used to look at it constantly back in the day. Who would have ever thunk I'd be sitting here chatting with the guy who did all the spfx I used to admire so much as a kid? I totally remember that suit from A-Team too. Hanibal was inside it. I used to jump off the window ledge onto the couches with my a-team dart gun during the intro song of that show. As a boy growing up in the 80s who didnt love the A-team? Keep em coming Steve!

Here's one you don't see every day. Rob Bottin called me up one day and asked me if I'd like to do a Oliver Reed picture. You can imagine my answer.

It was called Dr. Heckle and Mr. Hype. It was one hell of an experience and working with him was truly eye opening. I loved the guy and we had a lot of fun. He gave me the best birthday party I have ever had. And to this day I don't know how I got home that night. Or back to the set at 6 am. ;)

I have lots more on slides and my scanner comes on Saturday.

Ollie was one of the biggest party animals ever, one of his best friends was someone who I never got to meet and was part of the greatest band of all time....Keith Moon. I couldnt imagine working with Oliver Reed. You are very fortunate and lucky! Great stuff!
