The moment we’ve all been waiting for is finally here! The Distortions Unlimited Resurrection Collection is now available to collectors! If you’re not familiar with the saga of the D.U. Resurrection masks, please allow me to fill you in.

A long time ago in a galaxy far, far away, (Colorado, 2003 to be precise) Distortions Unlimited founder Ed Edmunds hired long time D.U. enthusiast / master creature creator, Jordu Schell to resculpt many of D.U.’s classic creations. Long forgotten classics such as Krem, Neutron Alien, and Human Error, amongst others were about to undergo a major face lift and be reintroduced to the collector world as The Resurrection Collection. In 2004, the Resurrection Collection made it’s debut at the TransWorld Halloween/Costume show in Chicago and the response from mask enthusiasts was amazing, but was trouble ahead?

Even though the newly debuted masks enjoyed a warm reception by collectors who were fortunate enough to see them at Transworld, the rest of the Halloween world didn’t quite know what to make of it all. You see, the intention had always been for the R.C. masks to be high end collector items. The mom and pop costume shops and the Spirits of the world had been used to selling masks that were intended to be worn and of the $30-$60 variety. What on earth would the average costume shop do with a $300 collector mask that was meant to sit on a shelf? Therein lied the problem. Needless to say, the R.C. had to be re-evaluated and re-marketed towards costume shops. Instead of being the originally intended, high-end collector masks, the R.C. was now to be transformed into wearable masks of the $60 retail variety. But wait,…Distortions Unlimited no longer worked within the mass-produced mask realm. The Golden years of the American made, D.U. assembly line masks were over, and almost every major mask company had moved production overseas. Even a lower end, wearable R.C. series couldn’t possibly be made in the U.S. without D.U. taking a major hit. So now what?! Interest had begun to peak and costume shop and collector orders had been coming in, but where would the masks be produced?

Let us “Time Traveler” to the Summer of 2008. (Dear Lord, please forgive me for that horrible pun.) Production of the R.C. had now taken place in China and masks were shipping. It was indeed an exciting time to be a collector, and the R.C. masks would soon be making their way into collections all around the world. (CUE THE RECORD PLAYER NEEDLE SCRATCH EFFECT!) ….The masks arrived….and instead of being the moment we had all been waiting for, it was a dark day in maskdom. China had struck again, and it was BAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAD! The R.C. masks had fallen victim to ultra thin castings and the most basic of paint apps. The torches and pitchforks had been drawn by the D.U. faithful and Ed and Jordu knew something had to be done!

The time had come for D.U. to hunker down and right the ship, and right the ship they did! This past November, Jordu was flown into D.U. headquarters, and the high end collector masks that we had all been waiting years for were now being made right here at home! Over the course of a week, Ed and Jordu hand painted dozens of BEAUTIFUL, THICK, R.C. castings, and the end result of their hard work is absolutely stunning! Production pictures of the TOP SECRET November production leaked out to The HMA, and the critics were immediately silenced. The pitchforks dropped to the ground, and all torches had now been blown out by the mighty wind that is…..DISTORTIONS UNLIMITED!

Now we can all own a piece of mask history! The Resurrection Collection “Collectors Editions” are now available for purchase!!! For only $170.00 + S&H each, you too can own your very own R.C. mask, hand painted by Ed Edmunds and Jordu Schell. You can either phone in your order at (970)-351-0100 or email Distortions at distortionsunltd@aol.com .
